Memorial Day Weekend is here! While this unofficial start of summer is filled with family fun, cookouts, community festivals, and more, it is important to remember the reason for the holiday. We need to remember our fallen veterans and honor our current military service heroes.

This Memorial Day, May 29th, do not miss the BATTLESHIP NORTH CAROLINA MEMORIAL DAY OBSERVANCE. Join people from all across North Carolina as they meet on USS North Carolina’s deck to salute our nation’s veterans. This fantastic and impactful ceremony features an all-service Color Guard, military guest speaker, patriotic musical arrangements, and 21 gun salute. A memorial wreath will be cast into the water during the ceremony for our fallen heroes. The ceremony begins at 5:00 pm and is included with Battleship admission.

Thank you to all who have served or currently serve in our armed forces! Chris Baynes & Associates wishes everyone a Happy & Safe Memorial Day!

Plans Underway for Wilmington's North Waterfront Park!

by The Chris Baynes Team

The city of Wilmington is always looking to the future and promoting development to bring even more incredible amenities and opportunities to its residents. One of these planned developments is the exciting North Waterfront Park. This 6.63 acre park will be located at the north end of downtown on the riverfront.

A master plan for the park is now in the works. The plans include an outdoor performance space, kids play area, splash plaza, inland boardwalk, beer gardens, open green space, and more. It will also be connected to the current Riverwalk. The estimated cost for the park as laid out in this plan is $20 million, which the city's Parks Bond would fund. The master plan has been created based on the current offerings and amenities in the city's community parks, the need of the Waterfront area, and the input of Wilmington citizens.

This current master plan will be put to a vote this week! If you would like to attend the Wilmington City Council meeting to hear the discussion, head to City Hall (102 North Third Street) on Tuesday, March 21st, at 6:30 pm. If the council adopts the master plan, specific design plans will be created by a design consultant with additional public input.

We are excited by the development of North Waterfront Park and cannot wait to see how it makes Wilmington an even more incredible place to call home!
